Step 1: Choose the Right Live Chat Platform
Before you start integrating a live chat service into your WeWeb website, it's important to choose the right live chat platform for your business. There are tons of chat platforms available in the market such as LiveChat, Tawk.to, Intercom, etc. Depending upon your needs and budget, choose the platform that suits you the best.
Step 2: Create an Account and Get the Embed Code
After selecting the chat platform, register for an account with them. Post registration, go to settings or site integration (the navigation may vary from service to service), where you can find an embed chat code. This is a piece of Javascript code, which needs to be placed into your website to enable live chat service. Most chat platforms will provide instructions on how to find the code.
Step 3: Access your WeWeb Website Editor
Now that you have your chat code, the next step is to integrate it into your website. Log in to your WeWeb account and access your website editor.
Step 4: Locate the Website Settings
Once you enter the editor, locate the website settings. It's typically represented by a gear icon in the side navigation menu. Clicking on it would open the settings panel.
Step 5: Navigate to Custom Code Section
Within the settings panel, look for a section called 'Custom Code' or 'HTML/CSS/JS'. This is where we will be adding our live chat code.
Step 6: Paste the Live Chat Code
Under the Custom Code section, you'll find spaces to enter your custom HTML, CSS, or JS. Since your live chat code is a piece of Javascript, paste your code in the JS space.
Step 7: Save and Publish
Once you've placed the code, click on the save button to ensure your changes are not lost. But remember, changes on WeWeb do not go live until you hit the 'Publish' button. So, to make your awesome new live chat feature available to your user, go back to the editor's main interface and click on 'Publish'.
Step 8: Test the Live Chat Feature
The final step is to test if everything is working correctly. Head over to the published version of your website and you should see a chat icon (usually located at the bottom right) that users can click on to start a conversation. You can test it by sending a message and checking if it appears in your chat platform's dashboard.
Step 9: Maintain Active Presence
Having a live chat option on your website requires active presence. You need to respond swiftly to user queries. There are various settings within the chat platforms you can adjust to auto-respond when you are offline, setting up operating hours, etc. Make use of these features to ensure you deliver prompt customer service.
Congratulations! You have now integrated a live chat service with your WeWeb website. Happy chatting!
