Atlas is a veteran-owned platform connecting U.S. military veterans and their families with job and education opportunities through a secure, automated system.

Challenges

Atlas initially handled everything manually, relying on offline processes and email communication, which was inefficient and challenging to scale. This lack of automation made it difficult for the founder to offer timely, effective support to veterans and connect them with relevant opportunities. Atlas is deeply passionate about helping veterans transition to civilian life, reflecting the founder’s own experiences as a former service member. He faced several key challenges in building a platform exclusively for U.S. veterans, service members, and their families. One of the main obstacles was creating a secure and reliable onboarding process that could effectively verify users’ military backgrounds. The platform needed to ensure that only those with military experience or affiliations could join, which required careful planning and implementation. Another challenge was balancing the needs of both veterans and companies. Veterans required a streamlined, easy-to-navigate platform for finding job opportunities, while companies needed an efficient way to post and promote job openings. Importantly, Atlas recognized that younger veterans, who are generally tech-savvy, expected a seamless online process and prioritized convenience in their job searches. The founder also saw value in connecting veterans not only with employers but with educational institutions like colleges and schools, which would open additional pathways for career development and advancement.

Solutions

To address these challenges, Atlas was built from the ground up with a highly specific onboarding system. This system required new members to complete a set of questions that could only be answered by those with a military background. This registration process ensured the platform maintained its focus on supporting the veteran community, creating an exclusive and trusted environment.

The platform's design centered around a feed, allowing veterans to easily browse job posts, news, and updates. This approach gave the platform a modern, intuitive user interface that was both familiar and easy to navigate. Additionally, a built-in chat feature was added, enabling users to directly communicate with employers or fellow veterans, fostering a sense of community and collaboration.

Atlas also integrated payment processing through Stripe, allowing seamless subscription management for various organizations, with charges automatically tailored to their unique needs. Different organizations, such as companies and educational institutions, are charged at different rates based on the nature of their engagement, and this process is now fully automated, reducing administrative overhead.

The results of these efforts were significant. Atlas successfully launched as a comprehensive and secure platform specifically tailored to the needs of veterans and their families. The onboarding process ensured that only those with verified military experience could join, creating a highly targeted user base. Thousands of users now use the platform to find jobs, benefiting from an efficient tool that connects them with companies and educational institutions for valuable job opportunities and career development resources.

The feed and integrated chat feature greatly improved the user experience, making it easier for veterans to stay updated and engage with the platform regularly.
